Vol. 43: Sogetsu Annual Exhibition "Believing in the Power of Flowers"

The 93rd Sogetsu Annual Exhibition “Believing in the Power of Flowers” finally started at the Nihombashi Takashimaya Department Store.

This exhibition was a commemoration of my 10th anniversary as Iemoto and the first held
by the Sogetsu Headquarters since the Great East Japan Earthquake.

omoi43-1.jpg       As the title indicates, each of the participants considered the plants even more seriously
than before and felt the power of flowers all over again through the making of this exhibition.

omoi43-2.jpg           The site décor was a chic gray color so as to make individual creations stand out.

omoi43-3.jpg                  The audience could directly feel the power of the displayed arrangements.

omoi43-5.jpg             Section for SYC (Sogetsu Young Challengers) consisting of exhibitors under 40

omoi43-6.jpg           As a celebration of my 10th Iemoto anniversary, I arranged various ikebana works
using flower vases that I created myself in a pure white space as the stage.

omoi43-7.jpg            This frame was constructed using Japanese hackberry and wisteria vine with an
            arrangement of vividly colored maple.

omoi43-8.jpg                   Together with my works, “my thoughts” were printed on the walls.
                  'What? Is this really ikebana?
I’m really happy to see such a response.
Just “beautiful” is boring, isn’t it?'

omoi43-9.jpg               Arrangements of the students of the Junior Class that I’m teaching were also
               exhibited in the same space.

omoi43-10.jpg                           Their lovely creations attracted the attention of the visitors.

On the first day, Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado cut the tape and viewed the exhibition.

'I want to believe in the power of flowers.'

I sincerely hope that people could leave this exhibition beaming with satisfaction.
