The Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibition, "Create! Re-Create!" started at the Shinjuku Takashimaya Department Store today.

In this exhibition, in order to commemorate the Sogetsu 90th Anniversary, I chose "free and liberated creation" as the theme, which is the founding spirit of the Sogetsu School.
In total about 300 Sogetsu ikebanists for the first and second terms took up the challenge of creating works which would go beyond the conventional idea of ikebana.

Yesterday, before starting the production, I encouraged the exhibitors by saying
"Please burst the bounds with your creativity completely and enjoy it with all your heart!"

Once the production started, the site was immediately filled with excitement!

I felt I could not lag behind them at all!

While working out the flow of the whole work, split bamboo was set up one by one.

During my own production, I looked around the site to check other works individually!

My work was constructed with bamboo split into 16 pieces so that it looks completely different when it is seen from four angles.

The following two works received the “Create! Re-Create! Award” which has been established for the Sogetsu 90th Anniversary.

An airy and beautiful work using tree branches, washi (Japanese paper), and smoke tree.

An excellent work in which different types of materials—plywood, balsa tree, dracaena, and expanded polystyrene—were fully explored.

Powerful creations, which overturn the stereotype of ikebana, are displayed all around the exhibition site. You can feel the huge energy emitted from the boldly created ikebana works with all senses! We are looking forward to seeing you at the site!
