Bamboo, the huge installation of plant material made by Hiroshi Teshigahara, reflects this meditative climate, while its seeks to extend the basic rule of ikebana: that is, the flowingness of the natural material is adapted to the inevitable limits of space in order to release energy and vitality, making them recognizable. While the materials used in this operation are not deprived of their substance and specificness, they are restored to another harmonious dimension. Thus, material and space confront each other by contrasting texture and geometry, but they avoid cancelling each other out. |
