In 2025, we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in the Pacific. While numerous media outlets share reflections on the war, we will turn our attention to the memories shown in ikebana. This special feature looks at the legacy of Sogetsu during and after the war, highlighting the recollections of Teshigahara Hiroshi and other Sogetsu ikebanists. It aims to explore the international appreciation of flowers and the profound connection that exists between ikebana and the pursuit of peace.In August, Iemoto Akane and the volunteers of Nagasaki branch performed ‘Kenka’, offering flowers for war victims, at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum.

Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibition "Flower Minuet"

From June 11 to 26, 2025, the Sogetsu Kaikan hosted a captivating ikebana exhibition titled “Flower Minuet.” This event showcased a rich variety of works, highlighting the distinctive creativity that defines Sogetsu Ikebana. It featured free-style arrangements meticulously crafted from liberated ideas nurtured through daily practice and expert guidance, alongside breathtaking pieces that celebrate the exquisite beauty of water. This time wonderful photos of the bamboo installation by Akane Iemoto displayed at the entrance of The Sogetsu Kaikan, and another selected 28 works related to ‘water’ appear in this article.
