Now the “real” exhibition is difficult to hold, however, we receive many requests from Sogetsu members who are crying for the output of their ideas, inspiration, and creativity.
To respond such a wish and encourage Sogetsu members , the Sogetsu School of Ikebana will hold  a new type of ikebana exhibition “Ikebana without Water” .

In every way, this is a challenge. The Ikebana arrangements shown here will be eye-opening and may change one’s conception ” What is Ikebana.”
We sincerely hope this unique project will expand the possibility of Ikebana and inspire not only Sogetsu members but those who love creation and new ideas.

In this exhibition, the participants send their work to the HQ by courier service, in order to avoid  traveling  and crowded scenes of preparation and dismantling .
The works sent will be placed by the HQ staff at Sogetsu Plaza and the exhibition venue will be broadcast  on Sogetsu website and SNS medias.

We are pleased to say that  we received 200 applications from all over Japan. (We accept only domestic members because of the safe transport of the works.) .
What kind of works will be exhibited at Sogetsu Plaza? We are very thrilled.

The exhibition will be in four terms ,each about one week, and it lasts for a month. In every term, Sogetsu Plaza and Ikebana work will show a different face.
Please stay tuned.

Message from Iemoto Akane Teshigahara

In the face of the spread of the  coronavirus, we  have been  forced to rethink our way of holding exhibitions.
What can we do in this situation? What should we do?
The exhibition “Ikebana without Water” came out of this self questioning.
This exhibition will exhibit  Ikebana arrangements which are completely independent of their surroundings. This idea is a total reverse from the one we have been seeking for so far; “born from the environment” or “can be placed in such and such a place”.

Now many aspects of our daily life are changing  and unsteady, this is exactly the kind of exhibition that we should try and explore.
Please do expect positively this new form of exhibition,  emerging from  the search for a way  into the future.
