Sogetsu Ikebana Akane Junior Class Exhibition “Flowers are the Heart”
2nd Floor Lounge, Sogetsu Kaikan
26 Jul 2025 [Sat] - 27 Jul 2025 [sun]

Children’s boundless imaginations bloom alongside flowers.
Join us in the 2nd‑floor Lounge of the Sogetsu Kaikan for the Akane Junior Class Exhibition, “Flowers are the Heart.” Founded in 1989 by Iemoto Akane Teshigahara, the Akane Junior Class is holding its first ikebana exhibition in six years.
From three‑year‑olds to eighteen‑year‑olds, children of diverse nationalities and backgrounds will explore nature and express their “hearts” through flowers. Each student interprets the beauty of the natural world from their own viewpoint, transforming their feelings of the moment into vibrant arrangements.
Come discover the origin of the Sogetsu spirit—“free imagination and creativity”—as reflected in every unique work.

Message from Iemoto Akane Teshigahara
Flowers are the Heart

After six years, I am delighted to present another exhibition by the children of the Akane Junior Class. For most of them, this is their very first show, yet what they do here is exactly the same as in their regular lessons.
They choose their own materials and containers, and they arrange the flowers themselves. The very young—three- or four‑year‑olds—work with a little guidance, but almost every child faces their flowers from start to finish on their own.
Stand amidst this gathering of individual blooms and listen carefully. From each arrangement you will surely hear the children’s joyful voices saying, “We love flowers!”
