Ikebanist : Eiko Sumura

Eiko Sumura(Master Instructor of Sogetsu HQ)
We are transitioning from Minazuki, the sixth month, to Fumizuki, the seventh month, according to the Japanese calendar.
This period signifies the convergence of the rainy season and the blazing sunshine of the summer.
The assembled driftwood in my arrangement evokes the vibrant energy of the hot summer sun and the profound vitality of the earth. This season offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the exquisite beauty of nandina flowers. Paired with peegee hydrangea, I conveyed the essence of the current season. This piece additionally features the strong, elongated lines of the tall stems of cattail, a wetland plant also known as "mizukusa" in Japanese.

*For previously displayed works, please visit the Japanese Room Gallery.
