Sogetsu’s ikebana instruction for children began in 1965 under the second Iemoto, Kasumi.Today, the AKANE Junior Class celebrates its 36th anniversary, bringing together a diverse group of children from various nationalities, aged 3 to 18, to learn ikebana joyfully. They borrow the power of plants to express themselves fully. From the children’s works, we sense the beginning of their learning journey and the pure happiness of arranging flowers. Why not spread this happiness to more children? Works from the “Akane Junior Class Ikebana Exhibition” held this July for the first time in six years, are also introduced.
Ikebana for Joy
Winter is a season marked by lively, celebratory colors. Gold and silver, red and white, pine, bamboo, and citrus……. These traditional auspicious items have been gifted for generations along with the heartfelt wish, “May good fortune come to the recipient.” Brightly and spontaneously, Sogetsu ikebanists convey their diverse wishes through the art of ikebana for joy.
