“Kiyoyuki Kato Exhibition from the Sogetsu Collection” Selected for Bijutsu Techo’s
“90 Exhibitions of 2025 Chosen by 30 Curators”
The Kiyoyuki Kato Exhibition from the Sogetsu Collection, held in July 2025, has been selected for Bijutsu Techo’s special feature “90 Exhibitions of 2025 Chosen by 30 Curators.”
The exhibition, which reexamined the work of ceramic artist Kiyoyuki Kato through his long-standing relationship with the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, was highly regarded by curators.
This exhibition looked back on the creative legacy of Kiyoyuki Kato, who passed away in January of this year, presenting a carefully selected group of works from the Sogetsu Collection in the stone garden “Heaven,” designed by Isamu Noguchi.
Honoring the deep connection that began with Sogetsu’s first Headmaster, Sofu Teshigahara, and expressing gratitude and respect for Kato’s many years of teaching ceramics at the Sogetsu School of Art and Design, a commemorative ikebana arrangement by the Fourth Headmaster, Akane Teshigahara, was displayed alongside the works—quietly accompanying and resonating with Kato’s sculptural world.
