Yoichi Hinata(Master Instructor of Sogetsu HQ)
The smoke tree reminds me of my father. About 50 years ago, he asked an importer directly to get it and grow it from a small seedling, and at its peak, it grew higher than the roof of the second floor. When the smoke tree was delivered to my classroom this season, I remembered my father's smiling face as he happily boasted about how big the tree had grown. It is a pity that the garden has now been leveled and turned into land to be sold in lots.

*For previously displayed works, please visit the Japanese Room Gallery.
